MP on new servers, possible bugs

I've upgraded the hardware, operating system, and most software that runs Mountain Project. It's roughly four times more horsepower than before. It's also very likely there are bugs, particularly around new photo uploads.

This also includes a DNS change, which means many of you will be hitting the old hardware for up to 24-48 hours. The old hardware uses the NEW database though... so this shouldn't matter except new photos will be broken.

As always, please report bugs here and I'll take a look.

Woot! More horsepower! Doesn't sound like a small under taking; looking forward to blazing fast pages.

Not sure if related or on my end. I can't down load new areas as of this afternoon. Worked fine last night but now I get the down load error tap to retry.

Make sure you have the latest version of the app. As of today, we stopped supporting some old versions. Delete it and get the latest here: mountainproject.com/mobileApps

Interested in hearing what you moved from / to. Tech specs? Who's the lucky host?

Amazon EC2 instances with PHP5.6, Apache 2.4. Those aren't the very latest, but the stable version that Amazon supports.

RDS database hardware with the new Aurora engine (which required updating to InnoDb tables). Our 11-year-old MyIsam tables were pretty cranky.

Side note: there's a bug related to page views that we display. Working on it...

Here are the results.

This chart shows the average time it takes for the server to create a page on MP (by day, over the last 5 years). Used to be about 3/4 of a second. It's now down to ~115 milliseconds for all of the last week (which is hard to see on the chart), AND we have a much larger database, with many more users and page views than ever before.

Thank you- glad to see the bar raised consistently by you (and your mystery team)

Hi Nick, Thanks for what you do...and sorry, here is another issue:

A month or so back, the number of page views dropped and then came back up in UT. About two weeks ago the numbers again dramatically dropped on seemingly all UT cover pages here on MP. This does not seem to be the case for NV. Do you know if this glitch will be rectified?

Thanks, Roy
