Description Suggest change

The Bird is a classic, long WI5+ with easy access from the parking lot. The first 60-70 feet shift between WI3-4 before transitioning to a vertical 30-foot free-standing column. For the last 20 feet or so, the route moves right and up onto a delicate curtain finishing with a snow/ice mixed sloping exit. The crux varies by year due to changing ice formation conditions; however, it is usually on the free-standing column slightly below the area where it connects with the curtain. There is an area for a standing rest before transitioning to the free-standing column.

Location Suggest change

This route is located in the Five Fingers area of Ouray Ice Park to the right (climber's right) of Up Yours, WI4, and to the left (climber's left) of Dead Ringer, WI5. The top of the route can be easily accessed from the parking lot by crossing over the lower bridge, turning right, and following along the main path north. Climbers can be lowered or rappel from the top or continue further north along the path to a fixed rope along a walk-down path.

Protection Suggest change

There is an extended linked chain from two bolts that can be used as the basis for building a top-rope anchor. The route can also be led with ice screws.
