Suggestion: Van/Truck/Campers Forum

Perhaps it would be a good idea to add a forum header for people's DIY vans, trucks, campers, and other whatever other housing/transportation type things that people are using to live a climbing lifestyle. Sometimes I see these threads come up and disappear and then come back again. I think a forum for the van-dweller lifestyle could reduce the number of created threads, as well as provide useful info for people interested in the subject and living that lifestyle. Topics that might come up are things like "where is a good place to park my van outside yosemite for an extended period of time", "Post your diy camper here", "how do you isolate your propane tank outside your rig".

It would probably be a slow moving forum, but I think it could harbor a lot of information that would be useful to climbers on a mobile lifestyle.

You could title it something like "Climbing Life" and expand the scope to cover the frequent "Where should I live?" posts in addition to transportation.

Good Idea! I do a lot of builds for folks and love to geek out about this stuff, i think it would be great to have this on MP, so many of us could benefit. Let's not over complicate it. Confuse them and lose them....

Main header of : "Dirtbag DIY" ???? it has a ring to it!

and everything else.... camping areas near Yosemite... showers near Joe's Valley... can be in separate sub headers

I really do like this idea, especially since I am trying to get one set up myself. So... who wants to head it up?

Seems people think it is a good idea, we'd just need to come up with header and contact Nick to see if we can make it happen.

I nominate Alex Honnold.

This would be super cool. All of my ideas for inspiration for my truck camper came from the climbing community. I must admit that I love looking at other peoples conversions as well...

There are 1-2 threads of that nature per month and they very rarely gain any long term traction. I don't see any downside to adding the forum.... but it's just gonna be a ghost town.

Not so sure it would be a ghost town. I imagine there are plenty of people out there that are interested in sharing the projects they are working on, gathering information about how to get started and complete certain parts.

I think it would be great to see all the threads on this subject in one place - a reference library if you will.

My GF and I are planning on picking up a van and doing a conversion in over the next couple years. It would be really great to have the climbing community chime in. Topics such as where to find the best deals on the vehicles (say 4x4 Sprinters) and the best deals on equipment for the build, as well as layouts etc.

How many users do we need to have before we get this section?

There are already so many dedicated van conversion websites. Not that it would hurt to have a forum here, but it seems so redundant to the already-existing websites.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
