Climbing in Austin?

I'll be in Austin this week Wed. - Sun. on a business trip, and it looks like the weather will be great! I'd love to get out on Friday or Saturday to check out any local rock? I've never been to Austin so if anyone has any advice, or even better wants to get out climbing with me, that would be great! I'll be traveling light so will probably just have shoes and harness.

I'm also interested in any advice for things to see and do in Austin in the evenings while I'm there!

Reimers Rock is some alright, albeit short, limestone not too far outside of town. There's a few alright gyms in town.
There are some really great art museums/galleries if you're into that sort of thing and REALLY good food around.
Go hang out with Willie Nelson outside the ACL studios. He's always there.

Enchanted Rock is a granite playground with cracks and multipitch. Reimers is all sport and North-Shore is an extension of Reimers.

mmmmmm....Torchy's Tacos is so good. And the fried Avocado at Trudy's.

try the Austin Climbing Group on FBook. there's also a few yahoo groups out there but they are being used less. should be easy to partner up or jump on a rope via a group; folks round these parts are downright friendly.

If I were still in Austin, I would meet up with you, but since I'm not, I'd do this if I was desperate to climb: Go out to Barton Creek Greenbelt this Friday or Saturday and you'll find some people climbing. Climb with them. There's always a bunch of people at the Seismic Wall on weekends, and there are frequently people at the other Barton Creek Greenbelt walls. You could try this with Reimer's Ranch but it would be harder to do and it is further out of the city. If you tried it at Reimer's, I'd head to the Prototype wall and you could maybe meet up with a group there earlier in the morning.

As for the food:
Torchy's Tacos are exceptionally good and, I belive, only to be found in Austin and now San Antonio.

The fried advocado at Trudy's is special. The rest of the stuff, not so much.

Some people call Hopdoddy's the greatest hamburger in the USA. The line is perposterous (think busy nightclub with a bouncer letting people in one by one). I waited in line once just to see what all the fuss was about. I went back maybe 10 times.
You can also check out South Congress, which is a pretty funky if somewhat touristy street.

24 Diner. Always open. Always good. Chicken and waffles are very, very good.

East Side Kings (a food tralier at the Hole in the Wall). This place may be closed now but it is great, great ramen at a music venue that is famous, if someonewhat out of date in austin. The building is a toilet, which is part of its charm if you are into that sort of thing.
Note: I heard this place was getting torn down, so maybe not there anymore.

El Camino Casino hamburgers. Burgers prepared by angry bikers from hell. It's been featured on the food channel or something as an awesome burger spot, plus it is on Austin's Sixth Street (like the Bourbon Street of the city), so you can check that out while you are down there.

Wink. Really expensive, but run by some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Very good, high class food.

Uchiko. Stunning sushi. Very, very expensive.

Franklins BBQ--You've probably heard about this. Wait in line for hours to get the most famous BBQ in the world. I never could bring myself to wait there for the required 4 hours.

The Salt Lick--Out of the way, but very, very good BBQ. All you can eat for a certain price.

The climbing is good. McKinney, Reimers, Rogers

As for food. Gotta second Salt Lick. Get the brisket. Also Amy's Ice Cream - Mexican vanilla with strawberries and graham crackers is the standard.

There's sport climbing all over town...I'd recommend the green belt, as it's inside the city. Reimer's Ranch is decent sport climbing, but it's a bit of a trek. If you're into trad, Enchanted Rock probably has the highest quality rock/climbing in the area. There's a few bolted routes including a few 2-3 pitch climbs up the dome.

Way back in 2006, I went to this place in Austin for a great show. It had many political jokes, impersonations and skits. I'm sure it's a different show now, but probably still well-worth seeing:
