Tick warning

A few of us were out at Windy Canyon yesterday and were surprised at not only seeing a few ticks out there, but taking them home as well. We saw three in the few hours out and each had one follow us home. Be careful when out climbing, as they seemed to be out in force. A few others we came across said that they saw them as well - one had lived here her whole life and had never seen any. Maybe it is just Windy Canyon? |

Moisture and now it's in the 60's and no longer freezing at night. Doesn't surprise me you found some ticks and they found you. Little buggers are hungry. Any canyon is a good place to find ticks. Brush, overhead brush and tall grass. |

It seems like they are on every single climb, both sport and trad these days. Is this really necessary? There was a really big one on the 5.3 move on CITH the other day. |

The real problem is lime disease. Not everyone is aware that ticks can be carriers. |

As someone who has been suffering from chronic neurological Lyme disease for like 9 years now - Spray with permethrin, check for ticks, and send me a private message if you think that you might have Lyme. There is so much bad information out there it is hard to get the help you need. Stay healthy everybody. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. |

Lyme disease isn't the only nasty thing that ticks can and do carry... and though Lyme disease (supposedly) isn't a problem in this region, for those that do live in Lyme areas... be careful because if you get it, it will change your life in a bigtime way... and not for the better. This from a 10 year chronic Lyme Disease sufferer. |

I've had lyme disease - it's no good. But we all (outdoorsy people) risk getting it, and the ticks that carry it you will not likely see because they are uber-small. |

The CDC’s online information on 'post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome' skirts the controversy by emphasizing that all patients need personalized care. Lyme disease is now spreading in west. A western tick species, Ixodes pacificus, is the carrier. |
