trad recommendations off of and close to I-70
Hello! |
I haven't climbed there yet, but Mt. Evans would be a good bet for July. I spent my youth on Guanella Pass. The absolutely love everything about it up there, except for the changes in the last 3 years to the pass and camping accessibility. If you want something remote, that place is no longer it. But you can get every other mountain thing you could want out of a trip to Mt. Evans. |

Vince, check out No Name Canyon, just east of Glenwood Springs. Parking is 3 minutes off the highway, climbs are 5 minutes from the car. Do the routes on the CMC Buttresses - almost all of them are worthy and right in your target grades - and you have yourself a day. Shade in the morning. |
While not a trad route, check out Royal flush in frisco. It's literally right off the interstate, has a quick approach, and over 1000 ft of vert gain. All the beta needed is on MP. |
I agree with Royal Flush on Mt. Royal in the town of Frisco, if your passing by. Just dont get stuck behind a slower group. And No Name Canyon has many routes on some fairly stable rock. |
Otto's Route in CO National Monument is just a few miles off of the road if it happens to be unusually cool weather. |
A few days to spare? Just swing down to independence pass. Tons of good lines. |

Hey everyone thanks for the great feedback! I got exactly what I was looking for. Mt. Evans looks perfect and Royal Flush looks like a great time... thanks again fellas |

There is that book that Semi-rad wrote, you will like that. Classic Front Range Trad Climbs |

Sweet Sunday Serenade and Questions and Answers, both of which are in Unaweep Canyon and both on mountain project. If you jump off of I 70 in Palisade it's not too far. |
