Thinking of heading to Bishop within the week, and plan on hopping between Bishop, Joshua Tree and Red Rocks for a couple months. I live in my Honda Element, and am a bit worried about the cold. Is this a legitimate fear, or should I just suck it up and enjoy the friction? Also, would anyone be interested in climbing at Owen's River sometime this coming week? I hear it's difficult to find rope partners at a place with such glorious bouldering. Makes sense. -Ranae

It's cold at night, but in a car you should be fine. The weather has been great this week - shoot me a message if you need a gorge partner! Of course, I live in a house, so....

I have never slept in a car when it was in the teens or twenties. That's what you're looking at

I've been tent camping in Bishop for the last couple weeks. You'll be fine as long as you have a 0 degree bag or lower. The milks have been a little too cold so I've been at the pit where it is a bit warmer.Yes it will be a bit cold, but you won't even think about it when you wake up to those beautiful mountains every day.

I've comfortably slept in my cargo van down to 17-9F with 2 med weight comforters, and I'm sure your Element has better insulation on the sides.

If it gets too cold crack a window and light a candle lantern. You'd be suprised on how much heat one will put out in such a small space. Again, don't forget to crack a window.

I'm actually posting it up in Moe's Valley/st george to stay warm-ish. Decided to save bishop until nights are clear out of teens/low twenties (my rig and bed aren't outfitted for those temps). I'll probably be bouncing to Red Rocks or Joshua Tree next. If anyone's at those places or thinking of going, hit me up!

has not been that cold at night, at least not in the tablelands. i only have a 20 degree bag and live out of my car, and sleep just fine. don't let the temps scare you off, it's only frigid if you're camping up in the milks.

I was there (the Pit) in a minivan last weekend--chilly but doable with a good sleeping bag. A Nalgene of boiling water in the sleeping bag is nice.
