Leavenworth Conditions

I was wondering if Leavenworth boulders are climbable this time of year? I see it's getting snow some days, but is it sticking?

It's been really snowy this month with low freezing levels. I'd count on quite a bit of snow up either Tumwater or the Icicle (the road is gated a few miles up the Icicle for the winter too).

You'll be wasting your time trying to Boulder in Leavenworth for the next while. The canyons are deep, and only some spots get sun, and only then for a couple hours a day at this time of the year. Add to that probably around 10 or more inches of snow on the ground...

The snow gives you a soft place to land. Don't even need to bring a crash pad!

Friends and I had a small window this break so we wanted to make an attempt at Mt Stuart.

We gave ourselves two long days to do it but after 9 rough hours, 3 navigating in the dark, and not making our first camp on day one, followed by 3 more hours the early morning next day, we found ourselves still 4 miles from the base of Ice Clif Glacier (our route), we had to turn back.

Long story short, the deep snow is here this winter, and you won't make it far into any approach without skiing. If you look for routes along popular ski trails, you can move at an okay pace in snowshoes. If you are actually breaking trail, even snowshoes will be very very rough.

Castle Rock is one option that might actually be accessible with a reasonable amount of time.

Otherwise, just expect to fight to get to the climb, and plan to move about 20-30% as fast as you would normally hike.

On the plus side, the ice is in. Noticed a good formation on Hubba Hubba on the way towards Stuart.
