What is otto's route like in the winter? does it hold lots of snow? Been up it before, thought it would be cool to sit at the top and enjoy the winter view.

Any insight would be appreciated.

The first half of Otto's route is north facing and very shaded. Brrr. If there is much snow on the ground on the north side of the tower you may encounter some on the route. Alternately, you could do Independece Chimney which climbs the south side and joins the last two pitches of Otto's. It has 5 points of aid at the start and goes at 5.8 A1.

The first several pitches are north facing and in a chimney. Driving from Ouray on Thursday, there was many inches of snow on the flat, sunny parts of the prairie out there. I'm guessing the whole route is out of condition.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
