Not Asia, but Canada, September 1996.

CT -> ORD -> SLC -> City of Rocks for a week, then....
SLC -> SFO -> Vancouver BC -> Skaha for 3 weeks - this was the problem leg

It was a Delta flight to SFO, then United to YVR.
The bag with all the draws and most of the other gear never showed in Vancouver.
Checked with United multiple times over the next 3 days - the bag was always supposed to be on the next flight out of SFO. Turns out it was misdirected to Hawaii in SFO, then put on a United flight from Hawaii to Calgary, where it was handed off to Air Canada and flown to YVR. The bag was sitting in AC baggage in YVR for over a day.

The trick to getting all this resolved? We found an AC baggage agent who took it on as a personal challenge to locate the bag.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
