Leviathan in April??

Hi, I am a retired Boulder woman with a lot of wall experience.
I want a serious responsible partner to do the easy route on Leviathan as soon as it is reasonable to be successful on it this coming spring.

I have asked a few guiding services, but received no positive response.

My CO partner who comes with me to Tucson will be iceclimbing/skiing in the spring and otherwise busy.

I've never paid for climbing but am willing to make this trip worthwhile to my partner.

I know it is a long walk in there and we will need to make a good plan.

I have some photos on MtProject.

They may not be positive about guiding in Alamo Canyon because we have had a closure each year due to Bighorn Sheep lambing season. The closure was in effect until April 30. After that it would be very hot in the area, even for desert rats.

I have yet to see a new order since 2014 which expired on Nov 2015. I assume it will be continued this year.

Actually, if you're talking about User Friendly, early May could be a good time to do it. It's in the shade almost all day. I did Crescent Crack on Table Mt a few years ago in May and if anything was a bit cold. Heck, if you had tried it this past May you probably would have needed a puffy!

It's the three hour walk that kills me. If I was to start early you might be right. Hopefully they won't renew the order. I'd like to finish my route this year.

I just contacted the forest service they are renewing the order. I got a pretty mean response too, telling me the animals need space and we scare them. I wanted to send them a message back telling them that I probably do more to conserve that eco-system than they do but I took the high road and just let it be. But yeah, Pusch Ridge will be closed from Jan 1-April 30 to travel more than 400 ft off designated trails. May I suggest Mendoza? They have some pretty big walls there and is open the time of year you mentions.

Cochise is most popular in the spring, Mendoza closes 2/28.
there is no enforcement of the closure, however Alamo would be the best habitat for the big horn. table mountain has less chance of sheep and enforcement and spring is a great time to head up there. don't let the long approaches stop you the climbs are worth it. I would suggest scouting out the hike first and starting pre dawn.

ps the billy goat in finger rock is within the 400' restrictions.

Let that be a lesson to you BriGuy, contact the Natl Forest at your own risk. Bummer that they now realize the stupid order is outdated.

Next time look at the Alerts portion of their website. If they are too lazy to at least write a paper, much less look at what impact we have on the lambs, then let us proceed with caution. Maybe next year?

May is a good time to go. Pick a day in the 80s or low 90s and start early to beat the heat. Leave a gallon Jug of water stashed on the hike in so you can carry less then refill on the way out when you will really need it.

Your Right, sorry about that, I thought it was may-sept.

Manual, please tell me more about what you wrote, can you send a link to the documentation (order) referenced regarding the closure please?

Go to the Natl Forest Website. They post alerts and notices. I look for fire closures generally and now sheep:

fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DO…

The order was signed in January 2016 unlike the last year which was signed much earlier.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
