Anyone using the Salewa Vertical Pro?

Thoughts on the boot? Been staying away from Salewa b/c they tend to be a bit heavier, but these are not. Can't find specs on how many grams of insulation are in these boots, anybody know?

I emailed salewa about these boots last year. They said the warmth should be about comparable to a pair of nepal evos. I can't really attest to this because I decided to get a pair of pro gaiters for extra warmth.

I have a pair of the vertical pro and I love them. The lacing system is superb, the fit is medium and the gaiters are great. The walk/climb modes work great also, noticeable difference for long approaches. I can hike faster and have less leg fatigue, and still have a pair of stiff boots for climbing, and they are super warm. I've worn them up to -20C in Norway and Polish Tatras for 24hr outings on long sustained hard mixed routes and I've never felt insecure in my feet; they've also kept my feet dry and as warm as you'd expect from single boots on all those outings. I've used them with Petzl Lyxn and Rambo4 and both crampons have great fit with the boots. Hope this helps.

I've got the Pro Guides which are essentially the same boot, but with a leather upper...I'd feel comfortable wearing my Guides down to about 0F before I'd start wanting toe warmers.

Otherwise, just be aware that the metal bar which runs underfoot and makes up part of the flex sole system can squeak pretty bad while the boots break in, but it should go away after a couple dozen miles.

Demo'd the pro guides last weekend and I have to say I think I liked them better then my scarpa phantom guides/6000's

Any advice on crampon compatibility? ie any models that fit particularly well/not at all?

I have the pro guides and I've had good fit with cyborgs, g22s, and bladerunners.

I presume they're the same boot from the welt down.

Just a quick blurb about Salewa;
I had accidentally stripped the Allen wrench gear opening on a pair of Salewa Pro Gaiters. It was my fault, I didn't clear the opening of ice before inserting the wrench to transition from walk to climb mode. Even though the damage was due to my negligence, Salewa replaced the old boots with a brand new pair! The customer service of this company is phenomenal. If you have a wide foot there is nothing comparable. I'm a lifetime fan.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
