Chattanooga Bouldering over New Years (28th-2nd)

Hey Mountainproject,
I'll be road-tripping to Chattanooga from the 28th to 2nd, planning to boulder unless it stays this warm. Anyone in town that period and looking to do some bouldering? I'll have a few pads as well as my sport climbing gear (just in case).

Also, does anyone know of a good rainy day bouldering spot? I know Foster Falls, Little River Canyon & Obed can be good for rainy sport climbing but I don't know of any rainproof bouldering spots - do most of the roof areas in the southeast like Dayton, Pep Boys, or the Lilly Boulders seep badly in the rain?

Thanks,
Matt

Not so much seep as condense. Check the dew point. Dayton can be great in the rain if the dew point is far enough away from the temperature.

Can confirm Dayton Pocket (well really only the Vapor Lock Roof) is climbable for bouldering in rain. I've heard its not climbable if its been raining for a few days in a row, though. I did a Chattanooga trip in March and on our last day it was raining but we still went to the Roof and everything was climbable and top out able (well at the roof you just hit a jug then drop to finish climbs).

There isn't much info on the Vapor Lock roof on Mountain Project. We went into Chattanooga's biggest Rock Creek (or whatever that outdoor/climbing store is called) and asked someone there about it and they gave us really detailed directions and descriptions of climbs.

If you climb like V7-8+ it is 100% worth it to go there, though. That roof is AMAZING. There's a weird easy 2 that we didn't get on but other than that there's only a 5 for easy stuff on the roof, the rest is 7+. I think there's 3 8's. The 5 is amazing, one of my favorite climbs I've done. The 7 is really good too. Most of the climbs are probably soft for their grades unless you're terrible at roof climbing.

Cool. Glad to hear Dayton stays dry. I really wanted to give vapor lock and honeycomb a shot so that's definitely on the agenda. Thanks, Eddy, for the tip about going to rock creek for approach beta. Did you get directions to stuff outside the roof? If it's not raining when I go I'd really like to check out riverdance and western gold, but I don't know whether the approach beta for them is as well known.

Easy enough to find Riverdance from the roof. It's about another 10 minutes down...on the left obviously by the river. as the main trail starts heading uphill look for an obvious trail heading down to the river next to a giant flat top area...this is the top of the boulder. hike down and there it is.

There's also another boulder or 2 on the main trail after the roof but I remember them being very tall with possible a dirty top, might need to be bolted.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
