Ice climbing pant recommendations
|
I'm looking for a pair of hardshell pants for my wife (size XS) to ice climb and ski in. Prefer something truly waterproof vs a softshell hybrid but could be swayed with strong enough opinions. So basically what hardshell pants with side zips, reinforced for crampon durability, and has a powder cuff at the ankle, do you recommend? |

The internal cuff requirement makes me want to suggest ski pants. Might find some at a thrift store. Or Sierra T. P. if you want new. But be warned, "truly waterproof" might get you coated, NON-BREATHABLE. |

I find resort skiing pants and ice climbing pants are at opposite ends of the spectrum for me. You will have a hard time finding a trim fit pant for ice climbing that has full side zips, big reinforced cuffs, and 3L waterproof -- those are ski pants! The powder cuff is also just added bulk on pants for ice climbing. |

I want to find a very trim fit 3L gore tex pant for winter alpine climbs. |

What makes you opt for a hardshell pant over softshell? |

Some Patagonia Guide (or one of the Guide variants) for climbing pants, and some Goretex ski pants for resort. After all that above... Patagonia Knifeblade pants might work for both, and are on sale here in her size: image.email.patagonia.com/l…Linnaeus, Where are you finding the latest specials lists? I was seeing it posted on FB for a while but they have stopped doing that. |

because i already have softshell pants, |

What about a decent hybrid like the Arc'teryx Alpha Comp? You'll need to size for layers since they aren't insulated, but give you good weather protection, keprotec patches, light weight, and decent durability. |
