Recommendations for 70m dry rope for ice?

Time to retire my current rope (Beal Booster 9.7 Golden Dry). I really like this rope because of the smooth handling, tough sheath and good waterproof/iceproof dry coating. I am looking for something to climb single pitch ice at the local crags (lead and then top-rope a few laps before moving to the next route). The rope would be used exclusively on ice.

Any advice (i.e. minimal diameter I should consider)? What ropes do you like? What ropes should I avoid?

Thanks

Let me get this straight, you want a dry ice rope?

A 9.5 Mammut would be a good one.

Yes. Dry rope for ice.

I have a 10.2 Bluewater Eliminator I use for ice cragging. I also have a 9.1 Bluewater Icon for lead/follow. I don't like using one for the other. If I had to use one rope I would look at the 9.7 Bluewater Lightning. Both of my ropes have good handing and unbelievable durability.

Mammut Infinity (9.5) Dry, The price has gone up, but so has the treatment.
same rope (same spec) with a thinner sheath is the Finesse at 9.3mm.

If you like the booster, I would get another one they are great ropes. My favorite is the Beal stinger golden dry it is a 9.4 mm rope.

Does the Unicore treatment on the Beal change the handling?

I have not noticed a difference with the unicore ropes. They are still very supple and have a soft catch.

Buy not made from dry ice, as that would not work at all for anything but some sort of very short lived ice sculpture.

i just picked up the Petzl arial 70m 9.5. it is a great all around performer. used it for sport and some trad at the end of the season and will be taking it to the ice cragging flows and the alpine as well. should be just fine.

I ordered one of those, and because of package insulation issues, the box was empty when it made it to my doorstep.

Must have been one of those subliminal ones. You barely hear and see them, too.

the UIAA has a new dry treatment test which is supposedly more stringent that what some manufacturers were claiming as "dry"

if yr willing to spend da moola for the ropes that meet the new test it might be worth considering

either way make sure BOTH the core and sheath are dry treated

;)

I really like my Bluewater 9.7 Lightning. The "double dry" has held up well for the last couple of seasons.

I have a 70m Mammut Tusk SuperDry and really like it for all around climbing, including ice

+1 for the Bluewater Lightning pro. Amazing cord.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
