At the last minute got some time between jobs and am looking to put together a trip to South America to climb. Most interested in alpine rock routes. Would love to be at Frey, maybe El Chalten area, or Cochamo.

Because it's a last minute, none of my U.S partners can really carve out time. How hard is it to find a partner in Bariloche or something? Or anyone looking for a partner for something similar? Shoot me a message

hi,

I met some guys from Bariloche in El Chalten last year when I was in patagonia. check out

as for El Chalten, show up at camping del lago with your gear and post some notes and you might very well find someone. the season just starts there and most likely there will be lost of aspiring/local mountain guides from Argentina wanting to polish up their resumes.

good luck!

Hi I'll be in chalten just one week from 2/01 to 09/01 then I'll go to Frey.
I don't know if you are going to be there, but if you stay I'd like to do some trad.
Good luck!!

Hi Alex -- Out of those three areas, it's probably easiest to find a partner at Frey. Just take your gear up to the refugio and ask around. There's almost always someone looking for a partner. It seems that in Cochamo, most people already come with a partner as it's a pretty obscure place to get to. It's also not very hard to score a partner in Chalten, but (IMHO) the weather, climbing and approaches there are pretty intense, and it's not really the kind of place that I'd want to climb with an untested partner -- too much shit can go wrong...
