Chattanooga in December

Hey Chattanooga climbers. I'm leaving on a road trip in a couple weeks and am hoping to get to your neck of the woods some time around December for a few weeks or so. I was planning on camping/car bivvying, but hear that scene is kinda sketchy and that car break-ins at T-wall are not uncommon. So, I'm checking around Craigslist for cheap sublets, but figured I'd check here too. At the very least, I'm looking for someplace to store some valuables that I don't need at the crag. I'd be psyched if someone had a non-sketchy driveway for me to park my car in to bivvy (or a yard to pitch a tent or whatever). I'm looking for really cheap options here, but if anyone has a room or knows of a sublet, I'd take that info too. Thanks for any help.

Also, I'm looking for climbing partners. I do mostly routes (sport and trad), but would love to check out some of your boulders too.

You could car bivy at the walmart at the base of signal mountain, which is like 20min from T-wall/suck creek.

I'll be down there in December, too. What's the weather like? From the MP description, T-Wall seems to be the warmest crag. Any advice on where to stay? Flying into Atlanta, renting a car.

T wall will be doable in December on sunny days. I've even climbed there during a light flurry. Dress in layers as it could change from T-shirt to sweatshirt weather very quickly. I'd recommend staying at least one night at the crashpad hostel for partners and beta. Depending on when in December, I may be looking for partners as well so here's my number (423)504-7813

Thanks for the note. I'll have a partner with me but we don't mind climbing in 3s, will text you closer to arrival. Looking at Foster Falls and Obed for sport climbing a few days. Any advice on which walls to hit up for sun would be greatly appreciated.

South Clear, Obed proper and Tierrany Wall all get winter sun as well as large parts of North Clear. South Clear is *the* wall for first time visitors, perhaps rightfully so. But Tierrany is well worth the hike (especially for big roofs) and North Clear has some absolute gems (Saddam Hussein!).

Camping in Walmart! How does that work? They have a site designated for camping? How much is the fee. Toilets, shower, cooking...?

Chatt steel and Chatt trad are the most up to date guide books out. Dixie cragger is good too, but you would need to get vol 1 & 2 if you climb outside of Chattanooga

They should have written "bivy" and not camping, of course. But it's quite doable. Local park to cook, library for internet access if you don't have your own wifi. Quiet, it ain't, and finding a spot without bright light creeping into your car is tough, but it's free, and safe.

A few nights ago this damned semi pulled up dead in front of my van - 15 feet away and idled his engine the whole time. GRRRRR

And last night, moments after I pulled in to the WM in Roanoke, VA, this carload of guys came in music blaring, engine raring... luckily they left after a few minutes but solitude it's not.

Hey Sara (and everyone else on this thread), I have a couple months off work and had a similar plan to road trip down to TN during December. I'm hoping to spend some time at T wall and get some trad lines in, but would be totally open to sport and boudering too! Sara I don't climb as hard as you (leading 9s and easy 10s on gear, climbing mostly 11s sport) but could follow most things you wanted to put up if you want to link up for a while down there! Would love to meet up with ppl and get in as much climbing as possible during my time off :) --Ali 313-520-0898

Hey guys, if you are planning to climb at T-Wall stay on the Orange Blossom wall unless you are comfortable leading 5.10+. T-Wall and moderates do not often collide in the sentence. Most of the local climbers will point you in the right direction but don't miss Golden Locks, great climb!

Not sure how the plans on this thread worked out...but if folks are still interested, Im looking to split a cabin Dec. 14-19 in Red River.

Me and my friend are looking for climbing partners in chatanooga from 12/10- 12/12 (we're flexible). We have a double rack of cams, a double rack of draws, 2 ropes and 3 crashpads, soo we're down for any type of climbing. we're just looking for some chill people to climb with and have a good time.
