Brian Scoggins wrote: This is actually why the police tend to be really bad shots (the all too common "$deadCriminal$ was hit 8 times. Police fired their weapons a total of 120 times" line in a news story). Not because they don't train, but because that situation is really hard to deal with even for (ostensibly) trained professionals.I have some friends who are cops. They are not as well trained as you think. When budgets are tight, training is the first thing to go... I wouldn't attribute the 120 rounds fired and missed to the nature of a gunfight - I'm sure it's not easy, but 120 sounds excessive. They probably hadn't hit the range since their annual qualification. |

Example I think people should carry, but the guy that dropped his daughter off with a assault rifle because he legally could...that is insane. I grew up shooting and hunting. Never point a gun loaded or unloaded at anything unless you are willing to pull the trigger. I couldn't quality what our issues are in a sentence, but overall mental health, drugs, bad parenting etc. are the issues. Everyone is flipping crazy these days. And of course the population exploded in the past decades.Gotta quote u again. Population explosion? Our population growth rate is on a slow and steady decline, particularly in the last 2-3 decades. Where do you get your beta? |

Where do you get your beta? It's pretty simple. 1970 - 205 million, 2015 - 321 million. Maybe we aren't keeping pace with expected or projected estimates, but 115 million people? We'll be at double soon. What do you consider an explosion then? triple? Quadruple? multpl.com/united-states-po… Also stats are just that. Stats. You say crime is on the decline, but I live in the real world. How much do you read about on a daily basis that is crime related? I never saw any of that stuff 20 years ago and I was reading the paper everyday. It's not limited to big cities anymore. |

tim wrote: These days..... Crime rates are actually relatively low "these days" in the U.S (including homicide). Not sure what makes u think people are any crazier "these days".24 hour new networks and news aggregation sites mean that you hear about every little thing that happens in this world. |

It's not limited to big cities anymore. You didn't hear about that 20 years ago because 20 years ago, a day's worth of news was restricted to one newspaper, or at most 60 minutes of tv time, so producers/editors had to pick what was shown, and a lost of small stuff was dropped. Now there is no limit to how much news can be fed to you at once, so every little story is made available to you. |

Zac.St.Jules wrote:So how do you Brits overthrow the government if needed? ;)They are voted out democratically no? Isn't that's what supposed to happen here? Name a single occasion in the last 200 odd years when the US government was overthrown by a well armed militia, and I'm including the Civil War. It's not going to happen, a well armed militia overthrowing a tyrannical US government is a schoolboy fantasy. I admire USBRIT for sticking his neck out knowing it's going to be chopped off. |

I'll be keeping my weapons thank you very much. At least then I can fight for the side I choose instead of being conscripted or killed like a sheep. |

Tim Lutz wrote:The Brits overthrowing their government you say?I know - the English burn that dude (plus more recent politicians and The Pope) in effigy every year for the rest of eternity. This happened before America, killing or attempting to kill the ruling monarch was a very popular activity for many centuries. On a side note "guy" was term given to strangely dressed fellows. Which somehow got translated to every dude in the US - I'm not saying anything about that. |
