I was looking through the old Rock 'n Road and saw that the only route listed for Governor Dodge was Ciley's Iron Face, rated B1.

Anyone know where this route/boulder is? I'm guessing it may be now known by another name?

For that matter, does anyone know of problems in the area that were rated with the B-system? Maybe the Flat Iron at DL?

Not familiar with the problem itself but for historical purposes I would like to mention that the infamous Dick Cilley visited Gov. Dodge back in about 1981 or 82. Dick Cilley came to visit the Dlfa at DL . We knew Dick from the DItch (yosemite), and other western climbing destinations. He drove out with his girlfriend whos parents lived very close to Gov Dodge. He may have been the first person to realize the potential there and probably did many first ascents that went unrecorded. Dick was a very strong boulder and had quite the eye for a line. He would often become fixated with a certain problem and would not give up till he sent. peace and F-nes SteveS

Thanks Steve. I started climbing in the Adirondacks and know the Cilley name and legacy from there. It seems he picked clean, tall lines. I'm guessing that he may have climbed on the Godfather boulder. But "iron face" may be a reference to the iron deposits which pop out as chicken heads and nubbins every so often?

Anyways, my interest is mostly historic. The story sometimes gives as much nuance as the geology.

Do you have any recollections of any B-grades from the 70s/80s. It'd be particularly interesting to find a B2. I know the B-system is fleeting, but it captures the standard of the time.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
