For the first time ever, the AAC is hosting a Craggin Classic at Devils Lake this October. Bringing together the community by hosting clinics, stewardship opportunities for giving back to the park, a sweet party and free gear to win. Check out the website for more details of other Classic's around the country and the upcoming Devils Lake Classic.

I don't know if this helps, but I heard there will be a grape toss contest off the top of the East Bluff, if more than one person catches a grape in their mouth while standing in the boulder field below, the winner will be the one who can catch one at a greater distance.

Seriously, huge problem with people throwing stuff off the cliff top trails out there

Saturday, Oct 17, 2015
Basic Self-Rescue (9AM - 12) - AMGA certified guide, Chicks Climbing and Skiing owner and accomplish climber Dawn Glanc will lead this ground school clinic. She will demonstrate how to solve common climbing problems and basic rescue techniques. Learn to ascend a rope, assist a rappel and much more. Some climbing experience required. Capacity: 10

Placing Better Protection (9AM - 12) - Anybody can tie a rope to a tree, but placing good pro in the rock is a skill some have elevated to an art. Local guide, Dawson Robb, provides an overview of trad climbing gear (nuts, hexes, Tricams, cams and their variations) and teaches proper placement, followed by opportunity for placement practice with instructor feedback. Capacity 10

Huge Days with a Light Rack (9AM - 12) - Join pro climber, Blake Herrington, to learn how to climb more pitches in less time. To be an expert in this field, one must operate at a high level not only in the psych department, but also in the area of efficiency. This clinic will cover the basics of making the transition from the single-pitch to the multi-pitch environment with a particular focus on the gear, systems, strategies and tactics that contribute to maximizing multi-pitch days. Capacity: 10

Outdoor Rock Climbing with Kids (9AM - 12) - Want to get your kids or students climbing outside, but unsure how to make it AWESOME? Climbing gym instructor and coach, Jess Pletz, demonstrates fun climbing games and challenges to get younger climbers psyched. Parent/child teams encouraged, but please no more than one adult per youth. Capacity: 10

Intro to Aid Climbing (9AM - 12) - To climb El Cap, you'll need to be superhuman or learn to aid climb. Learn the basics of aiding, including equipment setup, leading, and following, in this half-day clinic. Come with just your harness, and leave with enough skills to complete your first aid climb. Capacity: 10

Headpointing (1:30PM to 5) - 'Headpointing' is a tactic climbers use to push their lead climbing limits, whether the route is physically difficult for the climber or tricky to protect (or both), most climbers can raise their own bar with top-rope research and rehearsal. Local climber and guide, James Schroeder, explores the journey of choosing, preparing, training for, and executing headpoint leads in a ground school setting. Capacity: 10

Rigging Better Anchors (1:30PM to 5) - Ready to take your anchor rigging to the next level? Local guide, Dawson Robb, will review foundational knots, then learn a few core techniques for rigging simple and complex anchors with static line and cordelette. Everyone will have an opportunity to practice rigging, with instructor feedback. Capacity: 10

Women's Anchor Clinic (1:30PM to 5) - Chicks Climbing instructor and Skiing owner, Dawn Glanc, offers aspiring women an overview of big-picture anchoring concepts, like tying foundational knots, placing primary protection and rigging systems to create bomber climbing anchors. Capacity: 10

Rappelling - Beyond the Basics (1:30PM to 5) - Local guide, Nick Wilkes, demonstrates a variety of rappel & rigging techniques to address various problems in single and multi-pitch climbing, including classic, extended, tandem, and counterbalance rappel techniques and autobloc back-ups. Capacity: 10

Light & Fast Alpine Movement (1:30PM to 5) - Strategies and techniques on taking a minimalist approach to the mountains safely. Big routes are being completed in record times; use the learning from those efforts and adopt them to your own systems. Capacity: 10

Building Climbing Anchors (10AM - 4:30PM) - To become an independent outdoor climber, you must learn how to build safe, sound anchors. In this all-day clinic, local climber, guide, and Hoofer Mountaineering Club president, Eric Shepard, introduces beginning to intermedite climbers to knots, primary placements, and rigging techniques for building quality climbing anchors. Capacity: 10

Trad Lead Climbing (10AM - 4:30PM) - Interesting in taking on the sharp end at Devil's Lake? Local guide, Matt Grosvenor, introduces the gear, strategy and process of trad climbing. Students will have the opportunity to lead on mock-belay and receive instructor feedback on placements and technique. Capacity: 6
