Flying with a bouldering pad...?

Does anyone know off hand about what it costs to fly with a bouldering pad? Or two. A group of my climbing friends and I are supposed to be flying via Delta this December and I was hoping to have this figured out before hand. If anyone knows, or can direct me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

You could just look on Delta's website. It's quite clear. Anything over 62 linear inches is oversize, and a bouldering pad is way over 62. It's $25 for the first bag each way, $35 for the second each way, and an additional $150 each way for each item that is oversize. So for two pads, $720 total.

Keep in mind the max is 80 linear inches. Anything larger than that they will not accept, and two pads could exceed 80 linear inches if they actually have any level of padding. I would skip the bag fees. You're looking at a minimum of $350 for an oversized bag. It's cheaper to buy a crash pad brand new and throw it in the trash at the end of the trip. Like seriously... More importantly, airlines completely suck, dont give any more money to them. Other options include renting a pad at your destination, shipping the pads there via general delivery, or my favorite option, just go sport/ trad climbing instead.

Not worth the fees, we have places here locally that will rent pads for 10$, and I've experienced that throughout the country. Look into it ahead of time, and depending on where you're going I'm sure you'll find something.

I'm not too sure about the costs for flying with bouldering pads, but I found this nice web page that has some good suggestions for how to get pads to fit into standard size duffle bags. You have to take the foam out but it seems like a good idea.
