I am moving to AZ from WA around November. I am stoked on development and opening new projects. Here in WA I often hike 10-20 miles in a day on a worthy objective. I love all styles of climbing, but prefer classic movement, in perfect position, on solid rock ;)
I just want any and all info a climber might like to know living in this area. Hit me up and let's make it happen.
Northern Arizona is a great place to be in winter. Plenty of different elevations to chase good conditions, I've climbed shirtless on new year's day at 9000' and froze way down in Sedona a week later. Mountain project is very extensive and excellently organized for the region but still doesn't have it all. Tons of new adventures to be had in Sedona, especially if you're willing to walk a ways. Up above the Mogollan Rim near Flagstaff, Williams, and Winslow there is tons of good climbing and bouldering. The region has excellent basalt crack climbing (a lot better than in the PNW), big sandstone routes, limestone sport climbing, roof bouldering, and lots more.
The Prescott community seems to be quite small, Sedona has a few climbers but not much in the way of community. Most of the climbers seem to live in Flagstaff (there is 1 roped gym and 2 bouldering ones, plus the campus gym at NAU) which has a diverse and broad community. Good amount of people from Phoenix who hoof it up to climb too.
