Beginner looking to learn the ropes in Yosemite Valley (Aug 16-20)

I have climbed plenty in the gym, and have some outdoor experience, but little else other than shoes and chalk. I have never climbed in Yosemite, but wonder if a group wouldn't mind taking me under their wing if I help out and bring snacks! I know, not exactly a hot ticket, but hey- maybe sharing the gift of Yosemite climbing is motivation enough? Or the snacks?
Thanks!
Liza
p.s. Also, if you have any advice on how to link up with folks, let me know! I'll plan on posting a message in Camp 4 as well when I arrive.

Hey good luck! One suggestion would be to fill out your info section a little more completely. Other than that, be friendly at camp 4, share a campfire or a few beers. Let people know you're a safe belayer and they'll get you on their rope. Hope you get to pull some granite this week!

Ok, I'll wear my badge.

I'm not sure what your "shoes and chalk" comment means, but you should buy your own harness, belay plate and locking biner at a minimum. I also urge new climbers to buy a rope as soon as you can afford it to contribute something to the gear needs of the team. It is also helpful when you want to make a rope of two into a rope of three!

I would add a nut cleaning tool to David's list.

Putting up a note on the Camp 4 bulletin board should get you plenty of partners, unless the heat has driven everybody up to Tuolumne Meadows (which might be a more pleasant place to climb in August).

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
