Nevadans,

I'm a recent transplant from South Dakota to Ely, NV. I'm trying to find out more about the climbing around here, so far I've heard about some developed routes at Rose Cave, which I believe I have found and a handful of routes at Hercules Gap which I definitely found.

Does anyone have directions to or info on some of the other places I have heard of like Crankenstien Corral, Table Rock or some of the climbing right outside of Cave Lake State Park? I would appreciate any aid, thanks.

Bump for a partner of mine. I'm also interested in this epic looking limestone.

My girlfriend got a job working for BLM fire out here in ely. I just arrived today and will be around for a couple days, but back and forth from Tahoe to visit my lady friend for the next few months. Seems like there is some sick limestone! Went out today and explored around Hercules gap, rose/mondo cave, and cave lake state park. Incredible! Saw a few developed routes that looked awesome and endless opportunity for new routes. I'd love to link up and grab on some rocks! If you're around send me a message. I know absolutely nothing about the area, but am pretty stoked. Here are some cliff photos from the spots I saw today

RRGEllis, you nailed it. See her around somewhere?

Went exploring again today and it turns out that north/northeast of cave lake is nothing short of unbelievable. Huge cliffs, caves, canyons, and solid limestone everywhere. Endless options for new routes but lots of stuff up already. Can't wait to get out there with a drill, just gotta save enough money to bolt the thousands of routes this place could support.... :p

Here's some more photos

Limestone faces as far as the eye can see....I'm pretty bad at estimating how tall things are, but the main cliffs gotta be somewhere around 400ft

One of many single pitch canyons littering the hills

Some bolted action in a huge cave

Huge cave

More caves and cliffs

A dirt road leads up through the canyon on the right. Super easy access to all the cliffs

My fire crew is just helping out on the ely district and we were just laughing to ourselves wondering how a fit person ended up here.

Haha, Aleks did you live here for a while or something? Monkeyman, I must keep missing you out there man, I was going to check out some of the stuff outside the park yesterday but got rained out after work. I would love to help out developing as well if thats what your in to. I haven't put in a bolt but based on all the potential around here it would be a fun undertaking. I also checked out the terraces this weekend off highway 6 going SW of Ely and did find a bolted route out there, I need to look a little more to see what else is there. I think I will be out of town this weekend but my number is 307-640-1316 so let me know next time you're in Ely

climbing friend,

yes, I live there in many years passing for a job. Better than expected, yet still I move in approximately 10 months as soon as possible away from there.

Perhaps you may frequent the legal brothels and strike it rich playing the gambling cards in between your bold exploration flash.

Do locals publish info on this?

There are many miles of cliff to the east of Highways 6 and 318. Pennsylvanian Ely limestone.

Hey BJ,

I've been all over those cliffs by Highway 6 (Upper and Lower Terraces) I found one slabby 5.9, 6 bolts + anchors, that I think a passerby put up on lead. There's a ton of potential out there though. So far I've found probably about 25-30 sport routes at 6 different spots around Ely and I have a few other spots to check out yet. Let me know if you're ever in the area.

Not *exactly* local, but...the Ibex area isn't too far over the Utah line from there, and it's a GREAT area.

It will be interesting to see what's still in during the winter around here. Ely sits at 6,400 ft with most of the climbing areas at 7,000ish

Hi Mark (and others in the Ely area),

I'll be moving out to Ely in a few weeks for a job with the Great Basin Institute/BLM Ely district office. Hoping to climb in the area and explore route potential.

If you're still out in Ely let me know!

Hey Molly,

Yeah I work in Ely still. I'm actually right across the street from the BLM at the NRCS office. I would be down to climb whenever and Nathan and Molly in your office (not sure which side/region) climb too. Give me a shout sometime and we can line it up. Welcome to Ely!

Great, thanks Mark. Recovering from a sprained ankle right now (stupid bouldering) but when I'm healed up to explore I'll definitely give you a holler!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
