Let's get this started. This is a photo of the meadow (taken by my friend Jon Coppi) from the Sunday before last (May 31). Does anyone have any more recent information? Looks like it will take maybe another week or two to melt out:

Did anyone head up there this past weekend?

Ran up there a week ago, still plenty of snow but there are "steps" kicked in, the snow does add some time to your approach. Judging by Instagram a lotta folks are getting after it!

I was thinking about heading up there this weekend with a few friends. One has to be on-call for work. Hows the cell service by the camping area?

Cant make a call with Verizon from the camping spot. Occasionally I can get a text out. If you walk out of the cirque typically you can get good service.

Hey thanks Ty!

Another question.
I was hoping to bring up a tarp shelter to string between two trees. Are the campsites equipped for that or do you need a free standing tent?

Really no trees in the meadow camp spot below the cirque. There are however lots of large boulders you might be able to make work.

Still some snow. Surprisingly few parties up there today. Looked like 2 parties spent Friday night. One is staying tonight and saw another on their way up.

Lone Peak Cirque 6/28/15

Conditions in Lone Peak Cirque as of 6/28/15 ... Snow is still surrounding the meadow in the Cirque. Walk across/up a 50yard section to get to the base of the climbs.

  • Last chance to get water is where the stream meets the dirt trail, before the talus scramble entering the cirque.

Shade climbing recommended.

Smiles,

Lots of folks up there climbing. Had to walk 15 min out of the cirque for water in the am, later in the day there was enough flowing to pump. Had a close encounter with a rattler just above the first hamongog on the way down yesterday.

Did a Daytrip yesterday 7/11. There's still snow in the cirque, but not much. Tons of people were up there, but no bugs! We passed one rattler on the way up, he was 15 feet off the trail, but pissed off. My partner saw another one on the way down, apparently only 3 feet off the trail. I walked passed that one first, didn't see him, and he didn't really rattle at us.

Here's a pic from the top of the steep section, Illustrates the little snow that is left. My estimation would be there will not be any snow in 2 weeks, next weekend might be pushing it.

Was up there last weekend, July 18-20th. Had the place almost to ourselves.
Still lots of water in the drainage right before the cirque (15 minute walk from cirque) and about a weeks amount of snow left.
Probably would still be good for this upcoming weekend, and possibly the week after.

Has anyone been up in the last week? I'm hoping to hike up Friday, 8/7 and I'm wondering if there is still water flowing anywhere up there.

No water to speak of. Went up this past weekend.

Friends just posted some pictures from their climb, looks like there is no snow

How far is it to running water now that the snow is gone?

I'm hoping to head up for a day trip on Saturday morning...do I need to take water for my entire day or can we at least refill somewhere along the hike?

Thanks!

Was up there about 10 days ago. At that point, the drainage below the cirque had very tiny amounts of water left. I imagine by now it's dry. I'd plan to bring water for the whole day.

In case anyone is still wondering, I was up there yesterday and there is no water anywhere on the Jacob's ladder trail nor in the cirque.
