About two months ago, I gave Hollow Man (BCC) a shot, but I got worked (my first lead fall!). I was told that there was a way to scramble (4th class) up the backside of Challenge Buttress to the top, do one rappel, set up a top rope on Hollow Man, and then do one more rappel down to the ground. Does anyone know exactly where this scramble is?

You can scramble up the rock field from the bottom of Hollow Man, about 200 yards, to get on top of the buttress. From there you can work your way towards the top of hollow man. You may have to rappel to the top of Hollow Man.

You would be much better off (and safer) climbing Hollow Man bolt to bolt and pulling on some draws than trying to scramble up and setup a top rope. Most climbing accidents seem to happen when people are rappelling or lowering. I'm guessing since you are projecting a 5.9 that you are relatively new to climbing, so I wouldn't recommend scrambling up 4th class terrain and setting up your own anchor to rap down to Hollow Man's chains. Whatever you do, be safe.

on target Tim, I've seen more sketch shit in SLC top rope setting to 100% agree. Fergusen always comes to mind.

It all pales in comparison to Rock Canyon. I have PTSD from watching people climbing there on weekends.

Fergy and Rock must be tied for the most top rope setting accidents.

Probably the safest and easiest is to bring a beer and have someone set yer rope when they are done with the route.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
