Depends on how sustained the route is, I have been on 5.8 / 5.9 routes that are well under my limit but their was no moves easier on the entire route. I prefer routes with small sections of hard climbing with lots of relaxing spots in between so you can look around and enjoy what you are doing instead of always pushing hard.

I would say I prefer easier trad 5.7ish because I like having a route that has multi paths to the top so you can kinda go your own way. Once you get into harder stuff somethings there isn't much in the way of options on the way up.

I prefer grade III for most days. IV is pretty awesome a if I have a full two days, maybe 3.

I really like -1/2 - -1 numbers below my hardest send, because I like to be challenged enough by the movement or thought that I usually fall off a couple times, but am able to send a few things of these grades in a day.

It almost goes without saying that it depends on the day. Sometimes I like to push myself on 11s, sometimes I just want a cruise up the wall on 6's.

Lately, 5.8's seem to be the right mix for me. They a few grades under my max and provide for a challenge to lead with gear but even if they are slightly tricky, all the holds are there and I can work my way through em.

TLDR: 5.8

anything with a plus after it is usually good (especially 5.9+) It's like a box of chocolates - you never know what you are going to get!

Wouldn't "-1/2 - -1 below" just mean "1/2 - 1 above?

Agreed. The thread title is like asking "How many hours of driving is it from Seattle to Yosemite" while the entire discussion is about "the most difficult way to cross the Columbia River"

Peace :-)
