Hey MP,

I'm trying to raise money for Mike Carrington. Mike has created routes throughout Clear Creek, South Platte, Shelf and other crags in the Front Range. Every year, he's one of the organizers of the Sympathy at the Devil in South Platte event. While he doesn't always do it alone, he does pay for all the equipment himself. This costs about $2000-$3000. Needless to say, he can't really afford it as a single dad and an EMT--and this year he really can't afford it since he's going to school. I want him to keep doing what he's doing, so I put together a GoFundMe page for Mike so he can buy equipment.

Please help out and share on your facebook page. Thanks!

Great site. I meet Mike about a month ago and he explained how much $$$ and effort it takes to put up all these routes. He deserves some help and I think he is in Paramedic school too, so the $$ would really help. Please help and donate. Thanks Mike.

Thanks for your kind words Jack, and everyone else including Anunta who created the gofundme account and the generous climbers that have already donated. I found my passion in putting up new routes and I feel like it is the essence of climbing, blazing a new trail, creating something for everyone to enjoy for generations to come, going where no one has gone before, finding creativity in a new route. Not only is the hardware expensive, bolting new routes is time consuming and back breaking work. There are many times when I am out there alone because I can't find anyone that wants to help, but I continue to do it because I love it. Everyone wants to go clip bolts but not many want to put them in. I also try to bolt routes for everyone, not just myself. By that I mean I don't always bolt hard routes. I bolt routes that are easy and well protected for the climber that is a beginner or doesn't climb that hard and just wants to have fun. I also do my best to be considerate of shorter climbers, when I place a bolt I don't put it at the end of my reach, I place it lower because of the struggles I have seen many of my climbing partners deal with trying to reach a high bolt. I just discovered 2 new walls in Clear Creek that I will be developing. They currently have 1 route on each wall, one is a 5.8 and the other is a 5.9. I hope to put somewhere between 10 and 15 new routes here. I also will be putting new routes in Devils Head and Shelf road this year, maybe more!

Well, there are things that I love to do that cost money but I wouldn't ask the public to pay for it. And everybody doesn't like gym bolt spacing either. Putting up routes because you really love it and in the style you prefer doesn't really constitute charity in my book.

I know. Some of you think I'm too harsh. Just giving another perspective.

I think socialized bolting hardware should be a thing.

Hey cool MC. P-school is a tough gig, good luck with it. Wish I could help enjoy the SPlatte climbs, but I reinvented myself about ten years ago through medical science & biochem, probly dropped in about $200k...(yikes)...almost as much as my trad/wall/ice shit. I do miss drinking...er, sympathizing, with the devils.

Thanks to generous donations from climbers, friends and family I just got a shipment of 100 bolts and hangers, enough to put up 10-15 new climbs! Anyone interested in a FA?

And to Greg I would say thems that don't ask don't get.

Many people would and will gladly donate $$ for good routes, they just have no idea to whom or how.

[I may be rolling a 99 on my Write English there.]

I'd love to be part of one of your next FA's. And I would pay for all of the hardware.

Mike, I have a new drill itching to bolt something. Lemme know if you ever need a hand putting up something new.

I have not put up a route, and I really want to. Hit me up for adding new routes if you want some newbie help.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
