I have a pal visiting from Malaysia in Early June. He'd really like to do a big wall, and Zion is probably our best opportunity given proximity and weather. We'd be there the weekdays of June 8-10 or so. I am curious about anticipated tems (highs in 80s and lows in 60's int eh valley, I am sure, but not sure about on the wall), and...
Since the sun matters so much, I was curious about the solar aspects of the various routes we might consider. IE Touchstone (sunny, I think), Monkey Finger (does the corner help?) or others.
I've already done Moonlight and Prodigal and prefer not to repeat routes.
Any suggestions or alternatives that would be cooler? THe Valley is just plain too far for us.
We did a route on the north face of the Sentinel (court of the patriarchs, across from Abraham & Issac). We did it in hot weather and it stayed pretty shady. The route is called The Big Easy (10R A3 as I recall), and you rap the route. A bit of an approach for Zion standards and rarely done I'd guess, so maybe not the best beginner wall. I might be able to dig up a topo if you are interested.
If you want to free a wall check out Shune's buttress. Touchstone could be an ok route to do depending on the temps. Last year I visited the park at the end of May, and experienced high's of low 60's all throughout our trip.
