Does anyone have any input on the salewa wildfire pro approach shoe? I have never owned any salewa shoes or boots. I'm looking for a new approach shoe for the Grand Traverse in the Tetons. I had the scarpa crux and would give it a B-, I wasn't blown away by it. I was also looking at the LS boulder X. 5.10's don't fit my feet(at least their climbing shoes).

I've been impressed by the wildfires. I hear that a complaint is that they don't have sticky rubber, which they may or may not have changed since I bought mine. Otherwise a very comfortable and well made shoe.
I've had te Crux and the boulders. I thought the crux was a horrible approach shoe and both pairs of the boulders I owned blew apart in the lacing system within a month, and I typically love LS products.

I've used the Wildfires (not Pros) quite a bit for alpine the past few years, including soloing. They were sticky enough for snowy, polished limestone in the Austrian Alps. The only issue I had was the cosmetic "netting" came unglued on one pair (out of 3), but Salewa replaced them. I have fairly wide feet but they're roomy enough for light custom insoles. They're cushier as is than something like the Boulder X. They also held up far better than the LS Xplorers (at least the first gen ones).

5.10 Approach shoes are great, don't rule them out because the climbing shoes don't fit. I can't wear a majority of 5.10 climbing shoes and I love my guide tennies. Worth trying them out. Can't speak specifically to the grand.

I have both the Ravens and the Alp Trainer mids...both awesome boots. I won't put anything other than Salewa on my feet anymore. Try them on or buy from a place with a good return policy in case they don't fit your foot shape. For what it's worth, the Alp trainer works well as an approach shoe. Heck, I've climbed 5.4 in them!

Do the Salewa's tend to follow normal sizing? For example if I wear an 11 in most other shoes, should I start with an 11 in Salewa's? I will have to order multiple sizes online and return is why I am asking. Thanks.

I wear 10.5 and 10.5 fits fine. I have room for a thicker sock without it being uncomfortable.

I'm on my second pair of wildfire pros. I love them. The netting on the sides do come unglued, but I love how they fit and climb!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
