Next factoid- What percentage of MP users post on forums?

Nick Wilder - Could you do a factoid on this? I hypothesize that a huge percentage of all forum posts (>75%) come from a very small percentage of MP users (5%?). I'd be curious to see. Also who holds the title for most forum posts (Aka biggest wind bag)?

Please and thanks.

This has got to be Elena.
Also the leader for most flagged, most deleted, most useless, I'll bet.

The forums aren't used by that many people compared to the site in general, and are a surprisingly small percent of total page views.

In the last 12 months, there have been 3.0 million unique users on MP. 10,500 unique MP accounts have posted to the forums.

The top user has 6,757 posts. About 60 people have over 1,000 posts. There are almost 600,000 total posts.

So one person accounts for 1/100th of the posts on MP? Wow

at a time when there were maybe enough of us just to fill a beer hall that we traded jabs all day long between climbs -- Nick made sure it wasn't a "point thing" so we could have some fun with it.

well before crazy bitch; who can't hold a candle to real shit that goes on in the hills, anyway.

With those numbers, 0.6% of users account for at least 10% of all posts.

Woo hoo!!! I'm the 1%!!

Yeah, but of those 10,500 accounts that have posted 1000 of those were Elena's.... I am sure there are others that have multiple accounts... I wonder how many actual people make up the posters on the forum.... I guess about 12- maybe 25

Lets see: 600,000 total posts but only twelve actual posters so, on average, each poster is posting 50,000 times a year. Of course these posters never sleep, so they're banging out 5.6 posts per hour 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

It seems that I'm one of those twelve hyperactive people, and with over 1000 posts I'm in the elite group of master blabbermouths. But I'm afraid I've fallen desperately far behind my required output, averaging a miniscule 168 posts a year, a number scarcely more than the 137 per day I need to properly keep up.

Pfffft. 3828 posts over here. Your quality is too high per post, so ease off that and you can increase your output.

anyone remember the "competition" to be the one to post at the 'top' of the subsequent page??

I think we blew up the server at the time.

The craziest of the crazy dipshits on the forum probably not elena, but remember that guardsman from slc?? Holy crap, that guy really went all the way, "fixed" everyone's routes, and ended up in some hot water. At least he awarded himself the silver star.

1,009 posts, but only a 100 or so a year on average so not as sad as it sounds at first :-)

Alright, 25 it is. You realize that was sarcasm....right?

Bump.... Ah yeah, boosting that number. Too bad it's raining right now or I could get better at climbing instead of getting better at foruming... Ahh yeah right, I'm only kidding myself.

In other words, only .3% of mountain project users feel obligated to blab about climbing on the internet!

Great! Now with 25 actual posters, each one is averaging a mere 24,000 posts a year---much more realistic. (If you are going to indulge in sarcasm, it would be helpful to be able to recognize it yourself, eh?)

Hey! Its 0.35%, not 0.3%. Don't sell us short!

Well, camhead got banned, so it's probably down to .3%.

Are you sure Nick meant 600,000 posts/year? Not 600,000 total?

600,000 annually would mean nearly 2,000/day which seems too high by a factor of ten or so.

@Pnelson - when did Camhead get banned? I usually thought his comments were worthwhile.
rgold · · Poughkeepsie, NY · Joined Feb 2008 · Points: 526

Yeah, you could be right. The 600,000 number occurs after the statement "in the last twelve months," so that's what I assumed. However, it is part of a separate paragraph...

No shit? I was wondering why you changed your handle.
