Im wondering if anyone can provide some insight into the Kain hut in the bugs.

Should I expect to be able to use the stoves in the kitchen or is there always a huge line and I should plan on bringing my own stove?

Did it make you feel uneasy leaving your gear in the hut all day while out climbing?

How much space does a person have on their "bed"?

Any other info on the hut would be much appreciated.

I stayed there a few years ago during prime time (July) and never had a problem using the stove. The bunk area is just the floor upstairs covered with mats. You find a space for your sleeping bag and it may be cozy. Try to get near the end with the window so it is cooler. I left gear in the hut and didn't have any problems but that is a statistic of one. There is some kind of guided thing going on with the ACC this year in the Bugs. It may be very crowded. You may want to avoid that time.

I have been there multiple times and they have ample stoves, cookware and cups and plates to support a full hut with no real waiting, though there are peaks and valleys in activity.

I would not hesitate to leave my gear out, though it should be hung and orderly. I do put my rack in my pack or under my jacket to avoid tempting others, but i have never had a problem.

You will have ample room in the bunk room. I put my stuff in a stuff sack and keep it at my head and there is a bit of room under the edge of the bunk for this and that, though I believe they ask you to keep packs down stairs,

There are cabinets for food stuffs in the kitchen so it remains out of the sleeping area.

Finally, weekends are peak times, and space will be limited. It is worth getting a ACC membership so you can make advanced reservations. Otherwise you are limited to how far in advance you can make a reservation and some weekends will be hard to book.

Good luck and be assured the hut will be a good experience for the most part.

do any of you know if the hut has any power outlets to charge music players?

it does have power outlets driven by the hydro generator.

Hesitant to ask this...but...on the pics of the hut I've seen online, there's a satellite dish of some sort on the outside.  Anyone know what it's for?  Wifi?

I believe it's for remote monitoring of gas and electricity. Other huts like Guy hut have similar systems.

FWIW, the one time I went it took about 2.5hrs car to hut, and we weren't going terribly quick, so I'd say don't sweat it too much if you end up bringing some extra gear since the hike to the hut isn't that long.

For those who have been, how much longer does staying at the hut vs Applebee make the approaches?

Depends on the climb/approach. Pigeon spire from the hut, up bugaboo glacier would be faster than pigeon spire from applebee up bugaboo glacier. But most people take the snow patch - bugaboo col approach. It’s less than a half an hour from the hut to applebee.

Thanks! B-C would be our main objective (us and everyone else no doubt) but would aim to warm up on some of the closer/less intimidating things. Think we'll go for the hut if we can manage to snag a reservation.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
