Hey Boston climbers - I need some help from you guys to track down someone to help me grow our start-up in the Boston area.

Gociety is looking to hire a part-time staff member to help us grow the community in the Boston area. We currently have one staff member, and I am looking to compliment her with a more outgoing, enthusiastic member of the New England outdoors community.

I'm very interested in hiring someone who is very outgoing, has an entrepreneurial spirit and gets out all the time!

If any of you know some folks interested in helping me grow the Gociety community in New England, please send them my way, or at the very least have them shoot a resume and cover letter to jobs@gociety.com

Get Outside, Be Awesome,
J

Job Description:

About Us:
Gociety is a social network for people who love the outdoors. Our mission is to remind people that they can have an adventure every day, and we are bringing Gociety to new places all over the country. Our community is growing rapidly in Denver, Boulder and Seattle, and we need your help to take things to the next level!

Job Description:
As a member of the Gociety Trail Team, you will be joining a tight-knit family of young, active people that love to play outside. Your primary responsibilities will include marketing canvassing, putting on experiential marketing campaigns, helping host community events, member-outreach, and bringing new marketing ideas to the table. Whether you are handling user registration, giving a welcome speech to a group, dolling out high-fives, or sharing an outdoor pursuit you are passionate about, you’ll be engaging our community both online and off, ensuring that everyone is having a positive Gociety experience.

Members of the Gociety Trail Team should be dynamic, friendly, and full of life – they are the core of our community. An eye for detail and the ability to proactively solve problems are traits that make for a great Trail Team member.

Passion and professionalism combined with healthy doses of contagious energy, smarts and fun – then sprinkle in a sense of humor -- that's us!

Couple questions I'm sure will be asked...

- Why the 4 year degree requirement?

- Starting pay? Hourly rate? Commission? [it sounds like a glorified sales job]

- Benefits? ESOP? [in other words - what would be the underlying motivation to go that extra mile to make your business succeed? since I don't have any financial stake in your company's success, unless you give me some. and don't even suggest a lame part time job is a big enough carrot to draw talent]

- What constitutes an "amazing outdoor adventure"?

So not a part-time volunteer position. What does that mean exactly? PAID as differentiated from...? lol

A full time job they only want to pay part time, lol. A bit of implied age discrimination I might add too.

Sounds like a successful concept that both intrigues and makes me want to barf. I can think of a number of people who would be perfect for this, but I suspect they can draw pretty good full time salaries.

I was letting that slide, because the implication is they want someone "hip" to pimp their wares. Let's face it - the movers and shakers in social trends aren't (typically) 40 somethings. At least they were overtly honest about that requirement. ;)

On a more positive note, Jason is a really solid, gregarious and positive guy. It was always a great pleasure to climb with him. When evaluating start-ups in order to invest in them or to join them the first thing I look at is the team. It is my second and third things as well. Jason's association with this endeavor's team is an extremely positive factor from my perspective.

Hey everyone,

Gociety has had really good success hiring climbers in San Francisco, Seattle and Colorado and we are looking to the do the same in New England.

If you have specific questions about the role, please don't hesitate to ping me here, or shoot me an email directly to jason@gociety.com - I'd be happy to answer any further questions you might have about what we are looking to do.

@Losbill! Great to hear from you and thanks for the kind words. If I find myself back visiting family in Massachusetts, let's get out for some pitches at CH. (I still have some unfinished business to attend to there!)

Age discrimination? Pathetic.

Let's face it - most people over 40 essentially had their careers handed to them on a silver platter compared to the younger generations.

Of course, the 40-something's didn't get it as good as the baby boomers.. But, hey, getting paid exorbitant salaries to trash the planet with no regard for the future generations is a hard job.

I'm turning 40 in about a month so I guess that spiteful rant doesn't apply to me.

And I'm a tree hugging, blue collar slob.

Jason, thanks for not answering any of those questions publicly. You obviously sensed they were rhetorical. Your response falls squarely in line with exactly what I thought of your job posting.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
