Thefts at Indian Creek are a continuing problem that everyone needs to be aware of.
About a week ago I had some camping and ski equipment stolen from my Superbowl camp site in the late afternoon while out climbing. Fortunately the incident was witnessed by a third party and I got a good description of the perpetrators: A light blue Toyota RAV vehicle with a lady, a teenage boy and a German Sheppard dog. The Sheriffs Office has been very helpful in addressing the matter with a personal touch, and some of the equipment has been recovered although the perpetrators are still at large.
The Sheriffs Office is actively patrolling the area including the camp grounds and trailhead parking areas to provide a presence for deterrence, and they are continually identifying theft patterns and suspicious vehicles/individuals for possible leads. We can assist by noting suspicious behavior and writing down specifics including license plate numbers or taking photos which may be referenced in the future if there is an incident. Knowing our camp neighbors also helps which is common among us friendly climber folk. Finally, reporting all thefts will assist the Sheriffs Office in their efforts. Note that the San Juan County Sherriffs Office is in Monticello (435) 587-2237, not Moab which is in a different county.
Shity that this type of thing is happening. Thank you for reporting the incident. We are a small community. Let's look out for each other. I hope you recover the rest of your gear and that justice is brought to those that deserve it.

this would be a good thread to record a lot of this info from different occurrences so it can easily be accessed in the future.
