just curious if there is climbing near the McDowell Mountain Music Festival in Phoenix during March 28-30. Anyone want to climb? I've got an xtra ticket for Sunday night at the music fest too!

Josh,

Its a pretty fun place to climb! The most classic areas are Gardener's Wall, Tom's Thumb, and even Sven Slab. A personal favorite is to climb Hanging Gardens top out then approach to Tom's Thumb and climb Treiber's Deception (or my personal fav, Deep Freeze). That makes for a fun half day.

Check out: mountainproject.com/v/mcdow… for the beta, and enjoy your time out there! It'll definitely be nice and toasty!

There's even some good bouldering in washes, so you don't necessarily NEED a partner, its also not too hard to rope solo on most of the walls. Heck even Tom's thumb could be soloed to the top with only a couple of easy 5th class moves

^^^ agree with most of what is said above. I've not climbed the routes described above, but i've climbed in a lot of the smaller areas in the mcdowells. Rosetta stone, sven slab, half n half wall etc. You can't go wrong there, regardless of your skill level. If you need a partner, I may be able to get out there with you for an afternoon, but you may be well above my skill level. I TR anything up to a 5.8.. pushing 5.9. There are roughly 1 billion TR anchors setup in the mcdowells.
