can anyone recommend a good pair of shell pants that would be strong enough to handle some light climbing and still be a dry ride in a sleet/snow storm? I've been using light snow pants but they are way too hot!! Thanks in advance for any info
Take a look at EMS Ascent Series pants with the full-zip. They're a waterproof/windproof shell made with EMS' System III, which basically is like Gore-Tex. I picked up a pair last winter and am happy with them.
I know exactly what ones your talking about I got the jacket. Problem now is that I'm pretty sure ems discoutinued them. Cant find em.need to run by the store front and find out for sure
rab ascender for colder days and more weather protection. rab sawtooth for lighter and warmer days. cant go wrong with rab softshells. also patagonia alpine guide pants are great too
OR is a goto for many people, and I love my new pair. The DWR is a Teflon material, as is Gore, so if you threw out your cheap nonstick pans and prefer stainless or cast iron, think how much PTFE you ingest on a standard outing.
Rab has Neoshell pants and jackets that are waterproof softshells with high breathability, as well as a new proprietary down that is fluorocarbon free NicWax collaboration treated. All of my kit will be Rab in the coming years.
