The North American Climbing History Archives (NACHA) and the Summit Hut are will hold the third annual Granitica Festival at the Oro Valley location of Summit Hut on Saturday and Sunday February 14-15, 2015. The Festival starts at 5pm and will run until 10pm on both evenings.
The theme: Dreams of I'itoi- Baboquivari Adventures.
The festival features a look at the history of exploration of Baboquivari Peak starting with the Tohono O'odham perspective and the first ascent via the Forbes Route. The emphasis for much of the the program will be on the dramatically overhanging east face, home of the most challenging big wall routes in AZ.
I have attended the two prior Granitica Festivals and found them to be incredible events - the chance to meet the folks that pioneered some of my favorite routes and to hear their stories has been tremendous.
Tickets are available now by calling or stopping at either location of the Summit Hut (520) 325-1554 or (520) 888-1000. Seating is limited, so get your tickets soon!
