Hi,

I have wanted to climb Mount Hood since I first saw it in 2012, then really wanted to climb it after doing the Timberline Trail in 2013, so figured it would naturally happen last year after moving to Portland.

But it didn't, I couldn't find a partner who didn't require payment (insert sex life joke here). I decided this year that isn't gunna stop me, and while I REALLY don't want to go in a guided group, I will if I can't figure out an alternative.

So if anyone has room in their climbing party or knows that getting safely up and down is within their limits, or has a better suggestion of how to look for a partner, please reply/message me.

Thanks,

andy

Andy,

When are you looking to climb Hood? You will probably get many more responses here once late spring or summer rolls around. Lots of last minute partner finding happens in the regional forums.

Mark,

I was thinking Spring, but am open to suggestions/other people's preferences. I would also like to do a practice day first, but am not overly concerned about it.

Thanks

Hey Andy,

I am new to the area, (Gladstone OR) and I am also looking for partners. My only problem is I don't know anything about glacier travel.... but I have been looking around and doing some research, and if I find a partner/group, I will let you know too!

Thanks, and welcome to the area. I went canoeing on the Clackamas river last summer, we took out close to Gladstone, and if I lived right there, I would have to buy a canoe.

As far as learning about glacial travel, I just found and signed up for the Santiam Alpine Club basic mountain climbing school. Check it out, if you take their $95 course (covers rock climbing and glacier travel), you can then participate in their free August crevasse rescue practice (I contacted the club to confirm they still hold it annually). They also have their course materials posted for free.

Hope to see you in the class.

I am visiting WA state 3/29-4/10 and am considering some summit...I am ice climbing experience and gear as well as lots of backcountry, rope work and other necessary knowledge. I have not climbed a glaciated peak yet, but if you want to get any summits in during my time in the area I am game...

Dave,

Thanks for the offer, I am on a business trip April 6th and have various work obligations to meet before I leave, like going to Olympia on the 31st, and then family stuff on Easter, so I regret to say, can't make it will work, unless I quit, which doesn't sound so bad right now. Sorry,

Andy

Well Andy, let me know if you quit...shoot maybe I will do the same and we can take off and crush mountains and routes until our accounts run out...lol!
