Creating Climbing Our Kids to the Top has been a dream of mine for many years. My charity program will share my love of rock climbing with the "forgotten" children of our society. I grew up in a poor home but had positive role models and mentors that allowed me the opportunity to learn the art of climbing through Boy Scouts. To this day, rock climbing has helped keep me fit and has filled my life with many outdoor adventures shared with truly wonderful people. Climbing Our Kids to the Top will work directly with non-profit groups that support the needs of low income, at risk and homeless youth. Together, we will provide both financial and volunteer support to allow these youth to rock climb at a local rock climbing gym up to once a month for an entire year for free.
In order to make this happen I am seeking volunteers in several areas including but not limited to marketing, web design and maintenance(Wordpress), bookkeeping, office work, volunteer belayers and more.
It is my personal belief that there is a missing link in the chain between the rock climbing community and the youth that need it the most, those that are homeless, come from low income homes and youth at risk of becoming addicted to drugs, alcohol or get swept up in gang life. Often times these kids bring many challenges to the table in interacting with them and are easily over looked.
My first target group is the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth who run and operate 2 youth homeless shelters as well as a "safe" place drop in center here in Las Vegas. If you would like to contribute in any way you can contact me via cokttt@gmail.com or through FB, just do a search for Climbing Our Kids To The Top!

Hi Mansur,

I don't live close enough to help you, but have worked with the Kismet Foundation which does similar work. I highly recommend you check them out for ideas / inspiration.

Keep up the good work.

Derek
