yonah bouldering approach?
|
I was excited to learn of some bouldering at Mt Yonah as we're going to Unicoi for a few days. I am hoping to get in some bouldering but am having a hard time getting info on the approach to the bouldering areas. |

Excellent, I really appreciate your taking the time to let me know! |

Yeah, the bouldering there is taking off. It would be cool to develop a geo-cache style guidebook for the boulders. Some of the individual problems can be "interesting" to locate. It would certainly help off trail disturbance in the future. |

The boulders are pretty obvious based on most approach descriptions and just common curiosity...if you need more details, check out Southern Appalachian Bouldering |

I've been bouldering around Yonah for 10 years or so and still think it has some of the best quality boulder routes on some of the best granite in Georgia. It's right up there with Rumbling Bald in NC in quality of granite and routes in my opinion. The parking lot boulders are pretty awesome with such a short approach and the other hundreds to thousands of boulders scattered across the mountain hide some other super high quality routes. If you get tired of the parking lot area, explore up to the main face and you'll pass by tons of good boulders either on the trail or tucked just out of view from the trail. I've been waiting for this place to "blow up" for years, but it still only sees a trickle of boulderers compared to what it deserves. |
