Looks like that gritstone rock that has no bolts nor cracks for pro.

I bet the belayer was using a GriGri.

I feel bad for the couple that were watching him from the trail.

This is why I never video myself climbing.

and he looked so solid.... not

Glad to see he was wearing a helmet for protection.

Anyone else notice the biner hanging up at the top - perhaps a TR anchor???

BBQ · · Unknown Hometown · Joined Apr 2009 · Points: 554

Perhaps he should have TR'ed.

Djamer · · Laramie, WY · Joined Dec 2008 · Points: 10

Anyone know what injuries he sustained?

BBQ · · Unknown Hometown · Joined Apr 2009 · Points: 554

Looks like a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula on the right leg. I bet he broke both ankles as well. Upon further analysis the dude probably has some sort of hip injury. Just like Bono he probably won't be playing guitar anytime soon.

Would have been worth it to get the no name single pitch clean though.

I always find the How to Survive a Free Solo video very disturbing!

"cocky...no not cocky, but more confident". This illusionary belief of confidence obviously stems from the wearing black socks, in lieu of, actual climbing ability, precise footwork skills and mental strength.

I often wonder, if whether or not, that the fact that the TR rope was in close proximity has any contributing cause for the fall, due to lack of total concentration and a possible 'bail-out'.

Soloing is an internal personal/spiritual experience and should not be for public consumption or to impress the crowd.

How about the dude in the purple sweater at 2:57 releasing his belay of the young women with both hands do discuss the wonderment of what he just witnessed. They are all "Tools".

Pad wouldn't have saved him; he landed awkward & took a bounce instead of a roll. He may have broken a lot of things, but judging by his immediate reaction it was likely a groin tear as the legs were split upon landing.

Looks like he should have had more pads and spotters. Is it just me, or did his spotter do a horrible job of at least trying to move that pad back to catch his fall? I would hate to go climbing with those two other guys.

If you think you need spotters and pads for a free solo you're already fucked before you even leave the ground.

I think that dude has been watching Honnold a lil too much.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
