Climber's best vehicle?

I've owned this 87 FJ60 for about 15 years. 4 wheel drive, rugged, roomy and easy to work on. 303,000 miles and going strong. Gas mileage is 13 to 16 depending and is the draw back. I removed the rear seats and built a sleeping platform under which is a huge pullout drawer that covers the cargo area and a basement with hatch where the rear passengers feet and seat would normally be. Early Land Cruisers in decent shape are becoming harder to find but are out there. One just sold in Moab for $3,800.00 with low mileage. Stock condition.

Tail gate set up.

Slick rock camping just outside the west boundary of Arches NP.

An option is the Ford CMAX.

It's a full size car w/ hatchback. If you limit the crap you are bringing, and sleep alone, it's do-able. The main advantage is it's going really cheap for what you get, and it's are a hybrid so you get around 45 MPG with it.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
