Is there a way to determine if someone is still climbing there or has been hurt. I'm looking for someone who should have returned home by now but has been gone 10 days....is there a ranger station or something? Any kind of check in somewhere where people might list that they are climbing?

Just draw a picture of them and post it, and we'll all go looking.

Any idea on the general area??

Typically go to the county sheriff of the area they might be in (if in the U.S.), they'll probly go car hunting if you have that info.

Candy if you are really concerned, call my cell 703.926.4611 and I will be glad to help you. Just ask for Mike.

Where is this person climbing? There are a bunch of regional forums on this site, post your request in the one that covers the area your friend is in. More information about your friend's plans would help, along with a description of your friend and the rest of his party.

Thanks for the constructive responses. I finally got a text from a phone number that I didn't recognize that he is fine and staying out climbing longer than expected. Next time I'll make sure he leaves a better trail of where he's climbing, which car they took, etc.

Unnecessary, Adam. She had a real concern and you violated Guideline #1.

This may not help for this specific situation but a SPOT device is great for any individual(s) heading out to a remote location for rock climbing, ice climbing, mountaineering, backpacking, fishing, bush-wacking etc.
