I'm an experienced rock climber, but a new ice climber who's looking for partners and beta for ice climbing at Charleston if and when it forms up there. I'm off Thursdays and Fridays. Any information is appreciated as to when it forms, the best places to TR ec

The forest service has restricted access to a both the Vegas Hose Monster and Little Falls with the closing of the south loop trail-head. In any case both those climbs are a little serious. Couple other Charleston seeps on the Kyle Canyon side are rather short.
Personally, If I wanted the frozen stuff I travel to Utah.

When you say the access is "restricted" does this mean closed? Has anyone checked to see if the VHM is forming?

Thanks for the info. To bad this area is closed, the VHM looks amazing!! More information would be greatly appreciated.

If one were to venture in there right now against the advice of the signage they wouldn't find any ice. A little birdy told me so.

VHM was coming in nicely a few weeks ago but fell down 2 weeks ago when it was warm. As of 01/01/15, there was no ice on VHM or Little Falls. This last cold spell came in too quick. Perhaps the warm temps coming this week will get things flowing again. Another fixed line on the first pitch of VHM magically appeared recently that might get things started a little easier if another cold front were to come through.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
