Midwest Ice Conditions-14/15 season

Headed to sandstone tomorrow... Anyone else? |

Here is the first Munising Conditions Report! |
|
We've had a warm spell down here in SW Wisconsin, and while I haven't been to check on any of the routes, I imagine they are in rough shape. We did add a lot of water to the ground, but the 10-day calls for highs in the 40's and rain again next week, after a brief cooling this week. We are probably looking at mid-to-late December before we have honestly climbable conditions down here. |

I'm new to the area, currently outside Joliet for work. Where is Q-Monster? |
|
Quarry Monster is in a quarry just south of wyalusing state park in WI. Check Wyalusing ice in the route beta side of this site for directions and details |

Looks to be a good year for ice! is the owner of the quarry ok with folks approaching him/asking for permission to climb? We stopped by his house last year but he wasn't home... In the past we had a good relationship with Dennis(camped in the quarry a few times and had some of the largest fires ever!), climbing, shooting his .45, etc.. Hoping to have plenty of ice in town, but its nice to have options. |
|
Todd, the new owner is more then welcoming to let people climb at his place, he even started a FB group and has plans to one day farm ice there... |
|
Cox Hollow is still in! |

Here is your latest conditions report for Munising |

the ice is in on my beard |

December 7th conditions report |
|
Cox Hollow at The Gov was looking pretty good yesterday, definitely better than Thanksgiving. The right side could almost be called fat, the left is still a little patchy, but both go. |
|
Thanks for the report James! May have to play hooky soon... |

Zach Parsons wrote:Thanks for the report James! May have to play hooky soon... Sweet vid, but where was the scene of you getting out of bed in the morning and making coffee? This is a very important aspect of all videos concerning outdoor sports!Zach, Thanks. Regarding your suggestion, you don't want to see that part, it includes a 7 month pregnant wife and a screaming 2.5 year old. EDIT to add: I probably also should have made "Sail" the soundtrack...since I'm being totally "extreme" in the vid. |

Has anybody been out to Wyalusing, or Dickeyville, or Pike's Peak SP in IA lately? |
|
Climbed in Todd's quarry yesterday, Ice is looking great for december. Left side of quarry monster is all the way down and starting to get fat. This weekend should reduce it a bit.. Todd also cut down a bunch of trees on top of the quarry to hopefully promote more water in the flows. It may be working at the other flows(eagle eyes, birds of prey) are looking pretty good. Maybe we should rap in and put in some glue in bolts above them I have bolts and drill. |

Of the two sections there, the vertical wall is looking much closer to climbable (there are probably a couple flows there that are good to go right now - will almost certainly require v-threads for anchors) than the slab wall. Last I looked, a few days ago, I saw a couple lines that looked protectable - probably went at WI4 or harder. If that's not what you're talking about, I'd like to know what else there is in Dickeyville. |
