Hello all! I currently live in nakhon si thammarat(southern Thailand) and am in need of some climbing partners. I teach during the week but am up for weekends. I have all of my gear out here for sport, rope too.

Hi Jessica! I am flying to thailand tomorrow, and I will be there for at least a month. I plan to head south from bangkok mid-next week to explore the climbing opportunities. I just came off a five-month road trip with a buddy in the states, and I'm sure I'll be eager to get climbing again. If you're interested, let me know, and I'll msg you with more specifics. Fyi I lead mid 5.11's on sport, and for gear, I'm a little light unfortunately; I will only have my shoes and harness.

Thanks for posting!

I'm also flying to Thailand tomorrow! from Seattle.
I have a month or two to explore Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
I'm more of a (moderate) trad climber, but I'd be pretty excited to lead some easier sport or follow up to mid 10s or so (or hangdog whatever).
I'm also traveling light, with just shoes and a harness..
pretty unsure of my timeline right now, but im planning on going south for at least a little bit

Hey Dan! Sweet! Be sure to check out Khoa San Road at least for a night. I'm down to meet you up in railey or krabi Friday the 28th. I won't be in until late (on account of working until 3) but we could definitely get in a few good days of climbing Saturday and Sunday. I'm also not in tip-top climbing shape, getting over an injury but am ready to start training again. I'm happy to give you a lift and follow some harder routes. I'm keen on just being on rock, ha!

Not sure if you will have a phone or an idea of where you're staying but I know a lot of my teacher friends are coming down that weekend. If you'd like some ideas of where to go let me know. Safe travels!

Also- an easier way to contact me will be my email jess.wag2989@gmail.com !

Yea, let's definitely meet up. I'm departing right now and can't say much more; I'll write you two when I get wifi tomorrow night (Weds. US, Thurs. SE Asia). I'll be staying at the Lub'd hostel in Bangkok thurs to sat nights then either staying there longer or heading south to climb. Catch me at danjerke@gmail.com. Can't wait!!

Hi Jessica. Apologies for not responding sooner. For some reason the Mountain Project forum wasn't working on the Wifi network at the hostel.

I'm staying at the Lub'd Hostel in Silom and having a great time. A big crew of us went out to Khao San Road last night... we were THAT group that everyone probably hated haha. So thx for the recommendation. I'm going to spend the beginning of the week here and then bus down to Railay later in the week. Are you still interested in climbing next Sat. & Sun.? That would be rad!

Catch me on email at danjerke@gmail.com. I'll shoot you a message now so you have my address. This is a safer bet bc of the network issues.

Hi Jessica/Dan,

My boyfriend (from Thailand originally) and I are planning to visit Krabi Area next week for about 10 days. We plan to bring our sport gear and would love to meet up with other climbers while there. I am a seasoned climber, but waaaayyy out of practice and he is a newbie, but very strong & a natural. I'm comfortable leading 9s and tr-ing 10s.

We may be arriving in time to join you next weekend. Let's keep in touch! my email is shermanrms@msn.com

Aloha,

Rachel

Aloha again,

Just curious where you all are staying while climbing in Krabi?

We plan to fly into Krabi Saturday evening, 5pm. We're staying through the week and would love to meet up and climb with you all on Sunday.

Hope to meet you soon!

Mahaloz!

Rachel

Hi Rachel, I'm posting my email response in case other folks happen upon the thread.

I will likely be staying at one of the bungalows in Hat Ton Sai, probably "Paasook." The guidebook lists three accommodations in the Hat Ton Sai (climber) part of Railay: Paasook 200-900 Baht/night, Forest Resort 400-1000 B, and Mountain View Resort 1300-1900 B. I'm not sure how the bungalows work, like if they accommodate just person each and what there is for a bed and bedding. From the sounds of it, most climbers stay out this way, so you may want to catch the ferry out to Railay Sat. night and take it from there. We could meet up that evening, if you'd like.

I am getting in on Thurs. or Fri. and meeting up with Jessica and her friend Fri. night at the Good Dream hostel in Krabi (near the bus station). I'll be climbing for about a week, then Ko Pha-Ngan for the full moon on Sat. 12/6, and then maybe a scuba course in Ko Tao.

I look forward to meeting you!

Just want to chime in with my 2 cents. Have you guys heard any updates on the development on Tonsai? I ask because it might be worth looking in to. I stayed at Passook last winter, but have heard most of the Tonsai area was bought out by resort company(s). I have no idea what this means for the small family businesses that everyone knows on Tonsai, but I've heard that a large number of them have already closed. Just something to consider.

Hi Jessica/others,

I'm heading to Thailand tomorrow with a full sport rack, but without my partner (last-minute troubles). I can lead up to 9s and follow in the 10s. I have a guide book and plan to be in Thailand for a couple weeks (mostly near Krabi). If anyone wants to climb or hang, let me know.

You can respond here or email me beccashim@gmail.com

I was in Ton Sai a couple weeks ago. It looks like most of the bars, restaurants, bungalows, and massage shops that were right on the beach have been moved back 400 yards or so to make room for this new resort going in. Sad to see it changing...

I'm in Ao Nang and have been climbing a lot at Chong Phli. Would be stoked to meet some other climbers and climb at Chong Phli, Ton Sai, or Railay.

Gonna be around Chiang Mai 1/10-12 and Tonsai 2/5-2/27. I've got my sport rack, shoes, and harness. Would love to link up for a few weeks of epic climbing adventures! I haven't done any serious outdoor climbing in a bit, but should have no problem leading 9s and 10s.

I will be in Krabi February 27...Leaving from Bangkok March 5.

I would like to get in at least a few days of climbing. I will be in other SE Asia countries February 19-27 and prefer not to bring all my climbing gear. Can I get by in Thailand with only my personal gear?

Kris Henderson · · Ao Nang, Krabi, Thailand · Joined Sep 2013 · Points: 125

Mostafa,

There are a couple shops in Ao Nang you could rent a rope and quickdraws from. There are several shops on Ton Sai and Railay where you can also rent a rope and quickdraws. Send me a message if you want to meet up for climbing when you are here.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
