Don't think even Peabody's Ice in MI has a brewery sponsor.... :)
We will check into it though...

How did you determine that the silo could support the ice ?

We didn't. We just tried it. It becomes self supporting the bigger the ice gets.

"Secret ice" that's not very cool. We have limited resources in the Midwest and it's cool to share. I would tell anyone who would ask about any drip I know about anytime. Will you?

Hi Jon, we share with those who go on the trips with us. Also, this ice, I am sure, very below your experience level.. :) See FB "Ice Climbing Midwest" for a cover shot of one of them. Thanks!

It has nothing to do with "my experience level" and all to do with the word secret in a community of climbers. I personally do not like keeping ice on the wraps and will call it out. That's all

I usually have my way with an ice flow, then after its all hacked and no use to me I disclose the chop fest to the masses....

Hmmm... Not sure I agree with the self supporting. If the silo is made of brick then water can into cracks in the brick and mortor then freeze causing weak spots year after year. Not trying to shut down the ice tower I think it's a great idea for the mid west. It should be check for structure stability at some point though. But enjoy and climb safe.

This type of silo is not made with mortar. It is blocks that are tongue and groove placed together and stacked. We do inspect it each year before ice farming begins. Thanks for your concern....

For Jon: I do not see secret in any of my posts?? ;)

What's it made from then? On a different note. It's to bad you can get like some huge inflatable silos and other shapes. Then when the ice is set. Deflate the inside and climbing in an ice cave.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
