Takeaways from a scary fall.

Just wanted to send out some good mojo and maybe help a fellow climber. I took a scary fall last weekend. I ended up hitting the ground but walking away with a little soreness to my heels and elbow.

I was at my local climbing area and have had an epic season and felt strong. I had ticked most of my goals and wanted go back to the first hard climb that I did not flash.

I had fell at the crux before and was determined to send. Too determined. Instead of putting gear in the best placement I opted for a ok placement so I would have a better hand. I was about 30 feet off the deck and the 2nd piece was about 5 feet below the ok piece. So in my mind if I fell at the crux I would be fine. I was climbing on my friends 9.4 rope and had no idea how much the rope would stretch.

I fell, the rope came tight, my ok (bad) piece popped, I fell to the ground.

Takeaways for me

+Never compromise safety for a send
+Always have two good pieces between you and the ground
+Know how much your rope will stretch
+a send is only a send and if I don't send today there is always next time unless I am dumb and break my own rules.

Did you check your wrist dial beforehand? Might have been on Shred by mistake.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
