Show me your storage rack

When I moved into my current apartment a few months ago, there was this big office storage piece of furniture dominating the living room. Thought I'd get rid of it. Then I remembered how much stuff I need to stow away.

The thing is 7' tall and has literally zero horizontal shelves (or even fittings for shelf mounts), so I don't understand what it was for if not corpses. I built removable plywood/pine shelves and now, in columns left to right, it stores:

  • Boxes (including the 'every type of cable known to man' box), toolbox, camping ktichen, bike work stand and maintenance equipment
  • More tools, camping gear, sport rope (in a bag ready to go), boots/shoes, half ropes , retired rope and climbing shoes
  • 95L Gregory bag for flying with the rack, rope, and camping gear, 42L Gregory pack with my entire rack, shoes, and harness. Various sprays because Ontario.

From 'I want to get on a trad line' to out my apartment door takes 2 minutes, including a quick check that I have everything.

A standard wire shelving unit does a good job. Holds all of my gear pretty well.
triple rack, wall gear, ice gear, ski gear, 3 ropes, lots o shoes, and room for camping gear which is still in the car.

Disclaimer* (It's snowing in Boulder so I figured I would pull it all out of my trunk since I can't climb.)

Gear Rack
Used a nice piece of redwood, couple of links, some hooks and a snowboard for a shelf. Keeps things organized and it was a nice addition to the gear room.

We have an overhead storage system in our garage that is a heavy duty rack on a cable pulley system (use a drill attachment to raise/lower quickly). The rack itself is a lattice structure that works great to attach everything with carabiners. Tubs with ropes, packs, extra gear, etc sit on top.

I really don't understand you people...HOW do you have time to constantly rack and re-rack your gear on walls and in tubs??

Just leave it in a pack and go! (While keeping your pack well-organized.)

This is in my living room. We have a 770 sqft apartment so the line between storage and "wall art" is blurred a bit. The other 50% of our gear is crammed into a storage closet.
