Boulder, CO Lodging Near Rock Climbing Areas

We are planning a climbing trip to Boulder this November and are looking for accommodations NEAR rock climbing areas. Are there any hotels/hostels/etc that are within close enough proximity to climbing areas such as Boulder Canyon, Eldo, etc? Would love to stay at a place where walking from the hotel to climbing is a possibility.

Thanks

It kind of depends on which specific climbing area you're referring to. Most places in Boulder Canyon are a bit far to walk to, and also not very bike-friendly. Same for Eldo, though a bit better if you have a bike. The Flatirons, on the other hand, are generally reasonable to walk to from most places in town.

Sorry I didn't answer the main question (I don't know really know, unfortunately), but hopefully this helps plan where you intend to climb and how to get there regardless of where you end up staying.

You can walk from the foot of the mountain motel (or the silver saddle motel) to the Dome and Elephant Buttresses in Boulder Canyon.

Also, I don't know if there are hotels in Eldorado Springs. If there are any, you could certainly walk from anywhere in the town to climbing in Eldo canyon.

Good question.. Problem with Boulder is camping. (or lodging right near/at climbing..)

A few thoughts:

Maybe check THAT AIRB&B thingy. You could get something to turn up close (Eldo? walk in..))

You can rent bikes here. (I would not recommend this for getting to the crag though.. far enough away..)

You could use a bike to get to the Flatirons probably the easiest if staying around town.

Probably best to rent a car. You could check into the bus system (RTD) which may work ok, but not sure.
The bus does run up and down Boulder Canyon, but I don't know where all it stops before Nederland.

Hope that helps a bit..

Not really. The Dome is just about the only place in BC I think you could easily walk to from Boulder proper. All other crags would require a long walk up a highway without much of a shoulder for several miles. As far as Eldo goes, there just isn't really anywhere super close either. And definitely not within walking distance. The flatirons would be an option but I would hesitate to say that they are NEAR the flatirons.

yeah what you are looking for doesn't really exist in the area except if you find a B&B or like it was said the Mountain Motel.

haha I'd say the Broker Inn, but it's closed.

I would highly recommend staying at the Chautauqua cottages.

Chautauqua Cottages

My parents stay here sometimes when they visit and the places are really nice, quaint, but best of all super-close to North and Central Flatiron cragging (walkable).

You can walk to The Hill for eats and drinks and though Pearl St is also fairly-walkable, it is serviced by a bus stop @ Chautauqua (the Hop, I think)as well.

Not the cheapest, but classy and convenient.

If you're flexible to camping and renting a car, there is plenty available in the Nederland area (good access to Boulder Canyon in particular). Unfortunately, it can be full-on winter up there by Nov.

It does seem that Boulder climbing is much better suited either for those who live in the area, or have friends that do...

I think you can take a bus up and down Boulder Canyon. Not sure about how often it runs, or any details, really, but have a friend who has used it in the past.
If you don't know the canyon, could be an adventure finding the crags as the bus whizzes by.
Why don't you post up looking for parties to join?

Thumbing it may work in the canyon or on 93...or here on MP for that matter.

AirB&B is a good idea. Many people simply rent rooms in their house or studios, etc so you may be able to find something inexpensive and close. Then you can consider renting a car with your savings.

Side note: I climbed many years ago in boulder and seemed to remember an amphitheater sport climb in the 5.9-5.10 range that was around 75ft and vert if not slightly overhung. Close to boulder. Short drive. Does this ring a bell anyone...please share! Thanks.

Second the recommendation for Chatauqua. Stayed up there this past weekend for a wedding and it was very nice and super convenient to all things flatiron.

The "N" bus from boulder to Nederland, when used strategically, allows many Boulder canyon climbing options. If you have a bike, you can bring it with you, then get off at the nearest stop to the crag you want to climb at and ride to it.

Climbing without a vehicle is going to be hard no matter where you're at. But it's the least difficult in Boulder. So you can figure something out.

Also, my buddy is an Uber driver, he says boulder kinda sucks because everything is so close, so you'd probably make someone's day if you hired them to Über you up canyon if the bus seems a bit too sporadic for you, although, given the lack of cell service in the canyon, I can't see how you'd get an uber ride back, probably have to make friends at the crag or bus back to town

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
